This is a private reference resource, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official record. Direct each question to the public office that keeps the record.
Jail and records contacts
The current county contact block comes from the Itasca County Sheriff's Office and Records Division. Use the Records Division for an existing booking, admission, release, or photograph request. Dispatch is the jail and non-emergency operational line, not a replacement for a written data request.
Itasca County Sheriff's Office and Records Division
108 NE 5th Street
Grand Rapids, MN 55744
Jail and non-emergency dispatch: 218-326-3477, open 24 hours
Records Division: 218-327-7472
Records Division hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For a request, provide a full name, approximate event date, date of birth or inmate ID if known, and whether inspection, an electronic copy, or a paper copy is sought. The county's form lists records@co.itasca.mn.us; because the form is older, confirm the routing with the current Records Division before mailing anything.
Choose the right public office
Different offices answer different questions. Starting with the appropriate custodian reduces delay and helps keep a booking record separate from a court outcome.
- For current county custody or a status notification, use the official Sheriff inmate search and Minnesota VINE.
- For an existing booking record or booking photograph after release, contact the Sheriff's Records Division.
- For a criminal case, hearing, or disposition, use Minnesota Court Records Online or Itasca County District Court Administration at 218-327-2870.
- For a person under state prison custody or supervision, use the Minnesota DOC locator.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the federal BOP locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator, which are separate from county custody.
